All About: Transdermal Topicals

Learn about transdermal topicals

Let’s talk about transdermal topicals.

Topicals are anything you apply to the skin, including creams, lotions, and salves. They are ideal for localized effects, and popular because they are discreet and are long-lasting.

Effects of topicals are usually felt within 15-30 minutes and last 4-6 hours.

Exceptions to that are topicals that are in a transdermal base, meaning the formulation is engineered for deeper penetration and ingredients may enter the bloodstream.

Effects of transdermal topicals are usually felt within 45-60 minutes and last 6-9 hours.

Transdermal topicals are very helpful for enhanced effects over standard topicals, and are an excellent option when standard topicals have not been helpful and/or more potent relief is desired.

Our Relief Advanced Cream is an example of a transdermal topical.

Since topicals aren’t ingested, their side effects are generally limited to skin irritations. If you have sensitive skin, ensure you check the ingredients list before purchasing, and test on a small patch of skin prior to more liberal use.

Of note, since they may enter the bloodstream, some transdermals may cause unwanted effects of ingested products such as sleepiness.

Many times, people feel more comfortable starting their hemp wellness journey with topicals before moving onto solutions that are ingested.
