Stress Loves Your Neck

Woman holding neck

Stress loves your neck.

The muscles at the base of your skull are often the landing spot for stress, whether the cause is physical (ex. poor posture, injury) or psychological (ex. tightening your shoulders when anxious).

Releasing tension in those trigger spots has been shown to relieve headaches as well as neck & jaw pain. And when the tension is gone, you’ll likely feel your mood lift.

To self-massage the tension away, tilt your head back slightly and apply pressure on points in the middle of your neck on either side of your spine. Then take deep breaths and massage for a minute or two. Do this a few times a day or as needed to release the tension from those muscles and start feeling better.
